Once upon a time, elephants could fly.

很久很久以前，大象是可以飞的。

They flew everywhere.

他们漫天飞舞。

They flew high into the sky…

他们飞到天空中，

and down to the ground.

飞到地面上。

They even looped the loop.

他们在空中翻跟头。

Sometimes, the gods flew on their backs.

有时，神坐在他们的背上飞。

But the elephants were noisy.

但是大象太吵了。

They yelled, and crowed like roosters.

他们大喊大叫，像公鸡一样响。

Trees and houses shook below them.

树和房子们都在大象下颤抖。

They flew into trees and smashed them.

当他们穿过树林时，就弄折树干。

They landed on houses…

他们降落到房顶上，

and fell right through.

直接把房子坐塌了。

Soon all the trees were broken and there were no houses left.

不久，所有的树都死掉了，也没有完整的房子了。

“We must stop them,”said the gods, and they thought of a trick.

神说：“我们必须阻止他们。”神想了一个办法。

They invited the elephants to a grand feast. The elephants ate…and ate.

他们邀请大象吃了一顿丰盛的筵席。大象们不停滴吃啊吃啊吃啊。

When their tummies were full, they slept.

The gods took away their wings.

the elephants were very cross.

大象们很生气。

They shouted and they stomped.
